Finally an update for you all on Joan. I apologise for the long silence… A lot of changes going on in many areas in the Bertelson family!
Joan is back at the house in Boynton Beach with her husband Bob.
She was discharged from Bethesda hospital hospice floor this past Monday afternoon. Hospice (Medicare) provided a hospital bed and table and delivered them to the house before she was transferred there by ambulance.
A hospice nurse will come 3 times a week to check on Joan & give all the pain medications to the full time live-in CNA we had to hire to take care of her (all out of pocket, $5K/mth) The lady’s name is Jennifer, she’s from Jamaica and very nice. If Jennifer needs help doing anything for Joan at any time she can call the hospice nurses.
The Hospice Dr will also visit to assess her at least weekly, maybe more.
They are switching her pain meds. Removing the 72 hr phentanyl patch she had (along with dilaudid 4mg pills entry 4 hrs) to liquid morphine.
Joan can have visitors and seems happy there at home. Snow her Maltese dog lays on the sofa in the room to keep her company :)
